Prospects for European companies in the food processing and safety sectors
Recent changes in China’s regulatory context, coupled with an ever-increasing demand for solutions for food safety and efficient production processes, have created new opportunities for European manufacturers of food processing technologies and solutions to ensure food safety.
China’s new regulatory framework: the strictest food safety law
A series of food safety incidents has damaged consumer confidence in food processing industry. China’s government has responded with a new food safety law, considered as its strictest law to date. These changes will foresee heavy investments into the food safety sector – the market size for traceability and testing, for example, is estimated to hit the multi-million Euro mark.
The challenge for China will be in finding solutions that will meet demands for food quality and safety with the market’s needs for higher production efficiency.
In seeking new and efficient solutions to meet its objectives, the government has encouraged cooperation with credible overseas entities to address the solutions gap in terms of products, technologies and services.
Market opportunities for food processing equipment and safety
Within China’s 1.4 billion consumer base, the middle class is expected to reach 700 million by 2020 (from 109 million in 2016). A growing middle class with high buying power has driven consumer demand for quality food at premium prices. Food safety has become critical to establishing a strong food brand. This is reflected particularly within the dairy sector, where there is higher demand for and greater exposure to international best practices, technologies and services.
Prospects for European companies in the food processing and safety sectors – An EU-led Business Mission in China
An entry point into this notably challenging market has been created this year for European companies through the EU Gateway | Business Avenues programme . This EU-funded programme is organising a business mission in Shanghai from 10 to 14 July 2017 in parallel with the International Food Processing Technology Exhibition – FoodTek China 2017, China's Premier Integrated Processing & Packaging Event.

These selected companies shall be assisted in preparing their product offerings for the Chinese market. They will be matched with potential business partners and clients that they will meet in Shanghai.
Exhibition Days organised during the business mission will also give participants the opportunity to showcase European Food Safety Technologies and Services to a targeted audience of potential business partners.
